The third annual The Peninsula Classics Best of the Best Award brought together eight of the world’s finest classic cars, all internationally-renowned best of show winners, to compete for the title of the most exceptional motor car in the world.

The winning Bugatti is co-owned by the Mullin Automotive Museum, and Rob and Melani Walton, located in California, USA. The vehicle was also named “Best of Show Concours d’Etat” at the 2017 Chantilly Arts & Elegance.

Powered by a supercharged engine and considered by many to be the first supercar ever made, the winning Bugatti is one of four Type 57 Atlantic models ever produced, with only three in the world remaining.

The vehicle was designed at the height of the art deco movement by Jean Bugatti, Ettore Bugatti’s son. Jean based the car on his other design, the 1935 Aérolithe concept car, which was famously riveted externally, for fear of the magnesium-alloy body parts catching fire. Jean kept this signature riveted seam on the all-aluminum body of the Atlantic.

Previously presented during Monterey Car Week, the award moved to Paris this year to be presented during the world-famous Rétromobile event. The Bugatti was presented at an exclusive reveal party in The Peninsula Paris’ subterranean garage, following a private dinner.

The Jaguar-Themed Gala Aided Panthera’s Jaguar Conservation

Jaguar Gala

#MakeItHappen for Panthera

The inaugural Jaguar Gala in San Miguel de Allende offered a jaguar-themed evening to raise funds for the conservation of jaguars through the NGO Panthera Mexico.

The exciting evening kicked off with a 4-course dinner prepared by Chef Alonso Dominguez at Nextia restaurant in the culturally-rich city of San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.

Featuring Tequila Jaguar El Aguijón, made from 100% agave from Don Ramón House and containing silver flakes, this exclusive tequila was presented in a maestro-painted, artfully crafted bottle.

The evening was electrified with performances by the Cozatl ballet and theater, complete with live music by the Salomon saxophonist. An art auction directed by Alejandro de Beraza showcased works by a wide-range of talented artists.

Produced by Paola Pacheco, the By Invitation Only event was attended by notable guests including Guadalupe Loaeza, David Assa from Tequila El Aguijón, Carmen Gutierrez, among others.

Panthera Mexico’s mission is to save the big cats. In addition to being beautiful and majestic animals, jaguars are also considered the king of the jungles of Mexico. The jaguar represents the king of Mexican history and a cultural symbol. As such a stunning icon, large areas of natural land are preserved, not only for the sake of our natural resources, but also that of jaguars and biodiversity.

Panthera works successfully in 14 countries within the Jaguar Corridor to develop highly effective conservation strategies. These efforts have been proven successful in Latin America, through the reversal of the declining number of jaguar populations.

However, Mexico is of great importance within the Jaguar Corridor, and greater conservation efforts are needed. Representing the northern limit of the territory, the jaguars must be able to reproduce and move safely in order to protect the genetic variability of the jaguar throughout Latin America.

Established 3 years ago, the program in Mexico has since started to work on important projects in sites that are crucial for the jaguar population. Through forming collaborations with other NGOs, academic institutions, government agencies and local communities, the program has garnered progress in jaguar conservation. Thanks to the funds raised at events such as the Jaguar Gala, Panthera will achieve greater protection for this emblematic species.

Charlie Siem: Maestro of the Masses

Charlie Siem is the Maestro of the Masses

Charlie Siem is what some might refer to as a tall drink of water. He was a child prodigy who discovered his passion for classical violin music at the age of three. Now, the universally beloved maestro, in his early thirties, is known outside of the classical music world as a model and spokesperson for not only music, but some of the world’s most prestigious fashion brands including Armani, Chanel, Dior and Hugo Boss.

He has also achieved world attention for incorporating virtuosic violin variations of popular themes, which he has done alongside artists such as Bryan Adams, Jamie Cullum and The Who, to name a few.

For Siem however, his real love is playing and performing classical music, which he sees as an opportunity to hone the communication between himself, the instrument, the composer, and ultimately the audience. It is here where he feels most at ease.

Born in London to an affluent Norwegian father and British mother, Siem attended Eton College, before completing an undergraduate degree in Music at the University of Cambridge. From 1998 to 2004 he studied the violin with Itzhak Rashkovsky in London at the Royal College of Music, and from 2004 he has been mentored by Shlomo Mintz.

Siem has appeared with the best orchestras and chamber ensembles in the world. His 2017-2018 itinerary includes tours with the Israel Philharmonic, the Czech National Symphony Orchestra, and a South American recital tour with Itamar Golan.

“Every time you perform a piece, you’re constructing that cathedral of sound from scratch again and it’s always just is going to look different. That’s why it’s wonderful to play the same piece again and again.” – Charlie Siem

Notable guests, including Martha Debayle, Aaron Diaz and Lola Ponce, mingled around the Oasis pool and Cabo’s sole Lazy River as mermaids drifted by. Guests were highly entertained by La Cava’s charming, one-of-a-kind magician, who conducted a sensational light show that culminated in a spectacular fireworks display. Ocean Blue World congratulates Managing Director, Frederic Vidal, for hosting the evening and allowing us to participate in the magic.

Arbol’s elevated coastal cuisine showcases the bounty of the sea with delicate Asian influences and a trove of exotic spices from India and the Far East. While seafood and shellfish take center stage on the menu, flavorful curries, fine sushi and sashimi, Wagyu beef, vegetarian plates and an array of delectable desserts jockey for attention. The kinetic energy of the restaurant’s display kitchen spills over to the dining room. The atmosphere is electric as exquisitely prepared dishes emerge from Arbol’s tandoor and charcoal ovens and simmering woks. You can also take a front row seat at the sensational raw bar, where delicacies flown in from around the globe include fresh lobster, stone crab, oysters and clams.

At the helm of Arbol, Chef Anand draws on the rich culinary traditions of India as well as a wealth of pan-Asian influences. Hailing from Mumbai, he spent over a decade exploring and developing coastal cuisines in the Maldives, Seychelles and United Arab Emirates.
