Gala de Danza has brought arts and culture to this community and transformed the lives of many young students of Danza que da Esperanza whom have been given the gift of an opportunity, to have a life enhanced by the arts. The love and passion of this project is evident to all the guests and patrons as well as artists who come to participate and witness this extraordinary experience.
Through a buzzing awards party, an Instagram contest and a celebrity surprise, Los Angeles Tourism highlighted the 50th anniversary of Los Angeles and Mexico City as sister cities and top travel destinations. At the Ex Convento de San Hipólito in Mexico City, Los Angeles Tourism, Eric Garcetti, Mayor of Los Angeles, the Consul General of Mexico in Los Angeles, Dr. Carlos García de Alba and other personalities enjoyed a celebration in honor of Mexico.“We are here to celebrate the extraordinarily special 50th anniversary of the sisterhood relationship between Los Angeles and Mexico City,” said Patti MacJennett, Senior Vice President of Commercial Affairs at Los Angeles Tourism. “We have just announced a historic milestone for LA, that of welcoming 50 million visitors during 2018, achieving the record two years ahead of schedule and which we could not have achieved without the resounding success of our number one international market, Mexico. I am proud to share that, after a slight decrease in 2017, Mexico recovered with a significant gain to register its highest peak with 1.8 million visitors.”For the 50th anniversary of becoming sister cities, and to reinforce the message of “Everyone is welcome” in the most original way, a hologram of the Mexican singer and actor, Diego Boneta, appeared on-stage to delightfully surprise the crowd. In the highlight of the night, the life-size figure of the celebrity emerged to greet the crowd, and personally invite attendees to Los Angeles. “This is a night in which we celebrate one of my favorite cities in the world, my home away from home: Los Angeles. Thanks to the advances in technology I am physically in LA at this time. It is not so hard to believe you could also be here, because we are only 3 and a half hours away from Mexico!”As part of this amazing surprise and closing with a flourish, Diego announced the most important awards of the night: two trips to the city of Los Angeles, courtesy of Los Angeles Tourism. The first one was delivered during the event while the second, will be announced through Instagram account, becoming the first hologram to launch a contest in real time through that platform! Ocean Blue World gathered together in the beautiful surroundings of Los Tamarindos, an Organic Farm & Restaurant located just one mile away from the Sea of Cortez and San Jose Del Cabo’s estuary, it’s a property dating back to the 19th Century and was first used to grow sugar cane, one of the area’s major exports during that time, and due to its fertile soil quickly became one of the region’s most important farms.

Early November, Los Cabos was once again the cinematic hub setting the scene for the Los Cabos International Film Festival. This 4-day gala full of must-see commended films, gathered together hundreds of world-renowned directors, producers, actors and actresses, as well as media and fans to showcase the finest in the film and television industry from the Mexican, U.S, Canadian and Latin American markets. Under the guidance of Executive Director Alejandra Paulín, and Artistic Director Maru Garzón, the curtain proudly rose for this year’s 7th Edition.

The opening ceremony featured the Latin-American premiere of The Favourite (Dir. Yorgos Lanthimos), and the closing ceremony showed the screening of Blackkklansman (Dir. Spike Lee). The legendary Spike Lee also received the Exceptional Contribution to Cinema History Tribute. Actor Adam Driver received the Outstanding Work in Cinema recognition.
For Outstanding Work in the Film Industry, this award was presented to Piers Handling, executive director of the Toronto International Film Festival for 23 years.

The 7th Edition of the renowned Los Cabos International Film Festival has begun!
Outstanding personalities from Baja California Sur, Mexico and the world, gathered in the for the opening of the 7th edition of Los Cabos International Film Festival. The visionary film director, Terry Gilliam, received the Exceptional Contribution to Cinema History, while the head of Toronto International Film Festival, Piers Handling, obtained the Outstanding Work In Film Industry recognition. The Favourite, directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, starring Emma Stone, marked the beginning of 4 days that will gather the most applauded movies from the entire world.
Los Cabos International Film Festival began after a warm day full of welcomes, that ended with the Opening Gala at the Pabellón Cultural de la República, in Cabo San Lucas. The words of Alfonso Pasquel, president of Los Cabos Arte y Cultura A.C.; Jesús Armida Castro Guzmán, municipal mayor of Los Cabos; Carlos Mendoza Davis, Governor of the State of Baja California Sur; Alejandra Paulín, Executive Director; and Maru Garzón, Artistic Director of Los Cabos International Film Festival, invited the audience to enjoy the extraordinary program of films that this event offers, and the attending professionals to explore all the comercial offers that the Industry area of this Festival represents.
During the Opening Night Gala, two much expected recognitions were bestowed: the Outstanding Work In Film Industry honor was granted to Piers Handling, CEO of the Toronto International Film Festival; and the visionary, unconventional and irreverent film director, Terry Gilliam, accepted the Exceptional Contribution to the History of Cinema Tribute. The director will also present the Mexican Premiere of his most recent movie, The Man Who Killed Don Quixote, during this edition.
For an amazing ending, the audience witnessed the Mexican Premiere of Yorgos Lanthimos’s newest film, The Favourite, winner of the Grand Jury Prize in the Venice Film Festival, starring Emma Stone, Rachel Weisz and Olivia Colman. More than 80 screenings, besides panels, conferences and an Industry market add to a unique personality that distinguish a Festival that contributes to place Mexico as a cultural destination for the world.
