Greg Norman, one of the world’s most successful athletes and entrepreneurs, had been waiting for this moment for 30 years.

Visiting Cabo San Lucas in March for the official launch of Norman Estates, an exclusive real estate enclave at Rancho San Lucas, the 834-acre beachfront community on the Pacific Ocean, Greg and his wife Kirsten waxed enthusiastic about the project to a small gathering of international media, brokers and prospective buyers.

“When we were first asked to build a golf course here, I drove over the top of the hill and saw all the arroyos and dunes set back from the sea, and I said ‘Wow, this is the most spectacular piece of property I have seen in a long, long time.” The contours and topography, he said, are ideal for the routing of a great course. He also felt instinctively that this was the perfect place to build a branded real estate product, his first in Mexico.

Enter Francisco “Paco” Bulnes, the owner and C.E.O. of Solmar Group. A long-time fishing pal of Norman’s, Bulnes gave the globe-trotting Aussie carte blanche to develop a branded real estate product as well as a world-class golf course at Rancho San Lucas.

Norman Estates features 32 single-level estate homes and 36 luxury condominiums, all with ocean panoramas and views of a ‘least-disturbance’ golf course that weaves through a thick cactus forest and huge windswept dunes. Seven holes sit directly on the beach, a rarity in modern design. “We have three different eco-systems, which is very exciting,” Norman enthused. The 7,260-yard layout is slated to open this fall.

The new community’s coastal hacienda-style homes reflect a rustic “Baja Chic” design aesthetic, with expansive indoor-outdoor living spaces. “I like to kick off my shoes and relax when I walk into a beachfront home,” Norman stated.

The interior design of the homes was entrusted to Kirsten Norman, who earned her stripes in the hospitality industry. Masculine and elegant touches ensure that every detail is a natural extension of Greg’s distinctive lifestyle. The luxury homes are priced from $3.5 to $7 million USD. Owners will have access to an exclusive, members-only private beach club.

“This has been a passion project for myself and my husband since day one, with the goal of designing a space that we would ultimately live in,” said Kirsten. “Rancho San Lucas was the perfect canvas for me and inspired the seamless indoor-outdoor living spaces and Baja-chic interiors and will certainly raise the benchmark for beachfront living in Los Cabos.”

Norman, the serial entrepreneur who leads more than a dozen companies that bear his name and as well as his iconic shark logo, gets the last word.

“I personally look forward to spending time with my own family and creating memories in this special place,” he said with a beaming smile.

The Results are in!

The Rolex Middle Sea Race embarked on its 50th anniversary with a record breaking fleet in Malta, with 130 yachts representing 29 countries. Organized by the Royal Malta Yacht Club throughout five decades, this prestigious international offshore race encompasses true dedication, perseverance and spirit.

The 50th anniversary marked a unique edition of the race, which added to the motivation of the sailors. After charging ahead on the challenging course, Géry Trentesaux’s Courrier Recommandé of France took home the incredible overall win of the 2018 Rolex Middle Sea Race. The exceptional winnings include a Rolex Middle Sea Race Trophy & Rolex Timepiece.

The Courrier Recommandé crew’s collective experience paid out over and over during an edition of the Rolex Middle Sea Race that tested some of very best sailors this year – with some 27 yachts retiring.

What remains true of the first race and the 50th anniversary edition is the wild beauty of the racecourse. Originally a clockwise route around Sicily, today’s course is a 606-nm anticlockwise passage that still takes in scenic and tactical junctures like the Strait of Messina, Etna, the volcanic island of Stromboli, the rugged Aeolian and Egadi islands, beginning and finishing off Valletta, the 2018 European Capital of Culture.

The 2018 Rolex Middle Sea Race evoked the true essence of sailing, with a 50th anniversary that was truly unforgettable.

The Story of a Brand: Engel & Völkers Celebrates 40th Anniversary

The global property company Engel & Völkers hosted an exclusive evening gala on September 13th to mark its 40th Anniversary and the completion of its new company headquarter in Hamburg’s HafenCity district. Some 280 international guests accepted the invitation extended by Christian Völkers, Founder and CEO of Engel & Völkers AG. Famous names on the guest list included the British actor Joseph Fiennes (“Shakespeare in Love”) and his wife Maria Dolores Fiennes and the singer Vicky Leandros. Friends of the company flew in from all around the world, among them Marqués und Marquesa de Serdañola from Spain, Prince Pierre d’Arenberg from Switzerland, the London-based Italian Count and Countess Emo Capodilista, and Marchese Giovanni Diana with his wife Marchesa Gabriela Diana from Rome. Well-known German faces among the guests included Oliver and Dina von Boch, as well as Princess Anna in Bavaria with her husband Andreas von Maltzan. Additionally, high-profile Hamburg personalities like Hans-Walter Peters with his wife Ulrike and Daniel Crasemann took part.

“I am especially pleased that so many friends and contemporaries of the past forty years have travelled from far to celebrate the milestones we have reached, as well as the long-awaited move into our new headquarter,” said Christian Völkers. 

Past, present and future of the brand in focus

The evening began with the guests being picked-up at their hotels by an exclusive limousine service, courtesy of Mercedes-Benz in Hamburg. After a personal welcome from Christian Völkers and Sven Odia, the Co-CEOs of Engel & Völkers AG, guests enjoyed a three-course dinner accompanied by a marvellous stage show: Reflecting the motto for the evening, “The Story of a Brand”, host Christian Völkers took his guests on a virtual journey through the history of the company – from its beginnings in a small Hamburg office to one of the world’s leading property service companies. After dinner, the high-profile guests took to the dancefloor where they partied the evening away to the beats of the live Parisian band “Festival Mibely” and DJ Ronny DeVane from the “Pony Club” on Sylt.

Another highlight of the evening were guided tours through the new company headquarter. A space has been created in the ground-floor, the so-called Atrium, that will act as a lounge both for Engel & Völkers employees and for external visitors.
