Kristen Green

Unconventional. Savvy.

On the move and helping others on the move.

Kirsten Green is a venture capitalist with a flair for helping companies make it to the big leagues.

Green graduated from UCLA with a degree in business economics, though never went to business school. Her business acuity was gleaned in retail. She founded Forerunner Ventures in 2007. Her genius is in analyzing consumer behaviors and brand building. For Green it is all about “original thinking,” something she says is “paramount as an investor seeking outsized investment returns,” as reported in a CNN interview by Poppy Harlow and Haley Draining.

Her expertise has paid off. By 2017, according to CB Insights, Green became one of the top tier venture capital investors of the world. This is due in large part to two successful early stage investment payoffs. In 2016 Unilever bought one: the Dollar Shave Club for one billion dollars U.S. In the same year another of Forerunner Ventures’ investments, Amazon competitor Jet.com, was given over to Walmart for a tidy $3.3 billion.

“I’m still working to persuade the VC ecosystem that the evolution of the retail sector is ripe for more multi billion-dollar venture outcomes.” –Kirsten Green

Have you heard of the newest ¨Internet of Money?¨

After the financial crisis of 2008, a new money called Bitcoin was invented. It is a virtual currency, not controlled by any government but by users worldwide to store wealth and buy and sell things quickly.

It is not “mainstream” yet, just as credit cards took their official title in the USA in 1950, email taking form in 1984, and a more recognizable internet in 1994, Bitcoin is still on its way to revolutionizing the archaic world of banking and finance. However, its total value reached $100 billion USD in 2017 and it can now be used to purchase just about anything from real estate to services and products.

Like all currency, Bitcoin is based on trust yet there is no one centralized place like a bank, and as a result all users have a ledger called ¨blockchain¨ that accurately records all transactions.  The real future of it is to allow worldwide users to exchange value every day and night!

Primarily, Bitcoin’s power is the freedom it gives to users. Government and banks will have to change or regulate Bitcoin to hold their power over money.  Nevertheless, consider this – in reality, billions of earth’s citizens have no bank. Will Bitcoin solve this problem?

As the digital world of internet and mobile phones continue to transform at rapid speed, it looks more promising each day that Bitcoin may become the future of money.

The new Alphabet: Google’s Larry Page and Sergey Brin

Larry Page and Sergey Brin Global Game Changers

The mythos of the two Stanford students, who in 1998 created a search engine that changed the world is well-known. Today Google is an internet searching behemoth and Larry Page and Sergey Brin are two of the wealthiest men on the planet.

Google has expanded exponentially venturing into areas like drone delivery, pharmaceuticals, and autonomous cars.

“We try to invest …,” says Brin, “in the places where we see a good t to our company. But that could be many, many bets, and only a few of them need to pay off.”

Reflecting this diversity, Page and Brin have restructured, with Alphabet acting as a parent entity that controls several companies. Page, as Alphabet CEO, runs Google, the healthcare division Calico, the smart home appliance division Nest and more. Brin, Alphabet’s President, is directing special projects at Alphabet X, (formerly Google X); its top secret innovation testing division where the high- tech gadgets are created.

Page and Brin make it a priority to use technology to better the world for all. Sundar Pichai, CEO of Alphabet’s Google division, explains how a recent breakthrough in their Arti cial Intelligence program could be, “… literally, game changing — and the ultimate winner is humanity,” with solutions for “… bigger challenges like climate change and cancer diagnosis.”
Despite all they have already accomplished, Larry Page and Sergey Brin are brilliant innovators at heart and they are just getting started.
