Let the Good Times
   “If you ask a
skater what does skating mean to them, they’ll say
it’s more than a physical activity — it becomes a part of your soul, you eat, sleep, breathe." — Melissa Blackwood
oller skating has been experiencing a revival of late, and not just for the retro-chic fashion associated with the sport that peaked in the ‘70s.
R Roll!
As it turns out, roller skating is an excellent form of exercise that provides an excellent cardiovascular workout, builds core stability, and strengthens glutes, quads, hamstrings, and calves
burning around 267 calories in just a 30-minute workout for someone weighing around 160 pounds.
And although falls can be painful, proper protective equipment such as a helmet and pads, as well as maintaining control and not skating beyond your ability
can reduce the risk of injury.
But best of all, roller skating is a fun way to get exercise. Just check out the numerous videos on social media, such as the amazing moves Senegalese model and skater Oumi Janta demonstrates on her Instagram account, where she has
amassed 949,000 followers.
Kerry Washington, Courtney Cox and Jennifer Garner are among the scores of celebs who are also rediscovering the sport.
And roller skates have also gotten more stylish in the past 50 years, with Bottega Veneta, Hermès and Yves Saint Laurent now offering luxury models for the fashion-conscious.
So put your best foot forward and let the good times roll for a fun and invigorating workout.
