If you’re looking for boutique luxury in the heart of the Peruvian rain forest, the Amazon’s newest luxury riverboat, Aqua Nera, is waiting for you. Named for the black lagoons of the river it calls home, the newest
member of Singapore-based Aqua Expeditions’ fleet is a masterpiece of design, incorporating floor-to-ceiling windows, dark woods and sleek interiors in its 20 cabins and public spaces.
Textiles give a nod to indigenous tribes, whereas other accent details reflect the European influence on Peru during the rubber boom in the late 1800s. As if the river’s natural beauty, including skiff rides, jungle treks and fishing for piranhas, weren’t enough there’s a pool table in a dedicated games room, a screening room, spa, gym and plunge pool
along with the stunning scenery the vessel travels through on its four to eight-day excursions. Additionally, Aqua Expeditions owner Francesco Galli Zugaro made sure the boat reflects his company’s philosophy of sustainability. Its entire third deck can be powered by solar panels, and much of the flooring, decking and rails are made of recycled materials, including the agricultural waste product rice husk. Meals on board are also prepared by Peruvian chef Pedro Miguel Schiaffino with sustainability in mind, and feature a “rainforest to table” menu.
Built in Vietnam in 2020, the Aqua Nera traveled the 12,350 miles to its new home in Iquitos in 2021, and had her inaugural voyage in July, drawing rave reviews for the newest pearl of the Amazon.
