Buenos Aires

Buenos Aires

Elegant tree-lined avenues, a thriving nightlife, excellent food and wine and, of course, polo, make the Argentinean capital one of the most exciting cities in South America.

First-time visitors associate Buenos Aires with tango, steak, and wine—the trifecta of local passions—but the Argentine capital’s French buildings, Italian food, and Spanish nightlife tell the story of a city with European flair and an edgy Latin American twist. It’s much more than “The Paris of South America” although it was rebuilt in the early 20th century and modeled after Paris and Madrid, Buenos Aires is a city that hums with a passion entirely its own. Culture, cuisine, polo and shopping are just a few of the highlights.

Tango is Argentina’s famous dance and one of the country’s greatest contributions to the world. It is described as “making love in the vertical position” and is part of the national mythology reaffirming the Latin self-image wherein display, style, and sensuality are indispensible ingredients of life.

Polo is the second national obsession. Utterly dissimilar though they may appear, tango and polo express the national psyche in surprisingly similar ways. Both are highly charged and physically demanding while celebrating Argentinean grace, style, and panache.

The Argentine Open gets under way in November and culminates in early December. It will undoubtedly be the high point of the social year when Buenos Aires becomes one of the most fashionable places on the planet. The entire movable feast of cosmopolitan high society jets in, while the city seems to relax, breathe freely, and revel in its intercontinental charm.

“The city has a buzz all of its own, derived from its heady juxtaposition of faded, dusty elegance and edgy, flash modernity. The city and its people keep on dressing up, staying out late and looking good.” – Condé Nast Traveller

Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga’s Jazz Duet

Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga Are At It Again

Their chemistry was obvious from the beginning when Lady Gaga sang “The Lady is a Tramp” with Bennett on his Duets II album that became Bennett’s first ever number one record. Bennett, no stranger to working with the music industry elite, has collaborated with Aretha Franklin, Amy Winehouse, and Willie Nelson.

On the heels of Duet ll‘s success came Cheek to Cheek, Bennett and Gaga’s collection of jazz standards. Says Gaga,

“I’ve been singing jazz since I was a child and really wanted to show the authentic side of the genre. We made an album of jazz classics, but it has a modern twist.”

Cheek to Cheek is a highly praised album and debuted at number one on the U.S. Billboard 200, then went on to win the Grammy for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards. Gaga, who was Billboard’s 2015 Woman of the Year, joined Bennett on an international tour, delightfully surprising audiences by crushing the most famous jazz standards and doing it with style – mountains of it.

Following the massive success of Cheek to Cheek, the famous ‘odd couple’ is recording another album showcasing the prodigious Cole Porter. The details of this new project are still hush-hush but the 89-year-old Bennett has dished that the new record would be released to celebrate his 90th birthday which will take place this August.

Rolex 24 at Daytona

Rolex 24 at Daytona

The ultimate test of endurance took place at the 2018 Rolex 24 at Daytona with an intense, record-setting competition.

At Daytona International Speedway, drivers pushed their cars to the limit lap after lap. The competitive line-up, endless traffic and a record-breaking 808 laps made the Rolex 24 at Daytona a difficult race both mentally and physically.

Motor sport champions competed for every inch of tarmac around the 3.56 mile speedway, exemplifying the challenging nature of modern-day endurance racing.

With one of the largest in-field crowds in recent years, the adrenaline-filled start signified the excitement and intensity of the world-class race.

When nighttime fell, a surprise burst of rain brought extra commotion to the race, which forced the drivers and teams to adapt to the weather conditions. As the track dried and the race reached the halfway mark, only 20 seconds separated the top four cars.

As the No. 5 Mustang Sampling Racing Cadillac DPi crossed the finish line, the drivers Filipe Albuquerque, João Barbosa and Christian Fittipaldi claimed victory of the 2018 Rolex 24 at Daytona. The No. 67 Ford Chip Ganassi Racing took victory in GT Le Mans (GTLM) and the No. 11 Grasser Racing Team Lamborghini Huracan GT3 triumphed in GT Daytona (GTD).

In honor of an outstanding performance, the drivers each received a specially engraved Rolex Oyster Perpetual Cosmograph Daytona.

After the awards ceremony in Victory Lane, winning driver Filipe Albuquerque said: “It was overwhelming to receive the trophy and a Rolex Daytona after such a challenging drive – that final lap felt like one of the longest of my life! The race was unbelievable, with constant traffic demanding the utmost concentration. It truly was one of the most competitive and relentless 24 hours both inside and outside the car, which makes this win all the more special.”

Hinckley’s Dasher is the World’s First Fully Electric Luxury Yacht

Renowned Yacht Builder Hinckley Unveiled the World’s First Fully Electric Luxury Yacht

Hinckley, the distinguished New England builder of fine yachts, continues its legacy of craftsmanship and innovation by unveiling the world’s first fully electric luxury yacht – Dasher.

With fully electric propulsion, the soundless Dasher produces zero emissions. Without sacrificing capability, the vessel maintains the superior performance and handling that have earned Hinckley admiration from sailors and yachtsmen around the world.

Designed with a carbon-epoxy composite hull shape, titanium hardware and hand-painted Artisanal Teak, the ultra-lightweight vessel is the lightest Hinckley ever.

Along with modern styling and signature touches of teak, Dasher features new high-tech touchscreen controls and a retractable windshield. In order to achieve this lithe, sophisticated construction, each piece – from the hardware to the console – has been meticulously created using advanced 3D printing technology.

Dasher powers her 28 feet 6 inches with twin 80hp electric motors and dual BMW i3 lithium ion batteries, delivering unbelievably silent propulsion. This electric-powered yacht charges twice as fast as most plug-in electric cars. A full charge is reached in under four hours with dual 50amp charging, which is a standard on most docks.

Cruising speed is 10mph with fast cruising at 18-27 mph. The range reaches 40 miles at cruising speed, and 20-25 miles at fast cruising speeds.

As on all Hinckley Yachts, a shallow draft allows boaters to explore places that would be inaccessible on other yachts, making the Dasher suitable for day boaters as well as superyacht owners.

Without compromising aesthetic or functionality, this clean-powered luxury yacht is effortlessly suited for comfort. The touch screen panel makes navigating and controlling the yacht simple, while the open layout allows for numerous possible configurations for guests. Noiseless propulsion, zero emissions and minimal time at the fueling dock offer a superb experience on the water.

“Since 1928, Hinckley has pioneered beautiful, timeless, and highly innovative yachts.  We have a long tradition of innovation in pursuit of the perfect yachting experience.” Peter O’Connell, President and CEO of The Hinckley Company.

With a combination of well-honored heritage, iconic design and cutting-edge technology, Hinckley’s Dasher achieves a new standard of excellence with modern touches and fully electric propulsion.
