ON THE MOVE
The Amazing Adrien
Adrien Brody’s quest for the limelight began in early childhood. Well before being bitten by the acting bug, Brody was obsessed with magic and taught himself enough tricks to begin
performing at children’s birthday parties at the tender age of 11 under his stage name, the Amazing Adrien.
His subsequent career has been nothing short of magical as well, the result not of sleight of hand but hard work and sacrifice for the method actor known for immersing himself in his roles.
He did just that when taking on the character of Holocaust survivor Władysław Szpilman in Roman Polanski’s The Pianist. Brody immersed himself in his character’s sense of loss, broke up with his girlfriend, sold his car, packed up his apartment and moved to Eastern Europe for the shoot. He also, literally, starved himself dropping down to a gaunt 130 pounds on his 6’1” frame, and learned to play Chopin for the part.

The work paid off. Brody’s performance in the 2002 film was haunting and earned him a Cesar Award as well as an Oscar. Making him the youngest winner of the Best Actor award at just 29 years of age. And Brody’s been dazzling ever since, including an Emmy nomination in 2015 for the title role in Houdini, the illusionist Brody had idolized since his youth.
After taking some time off to paint and remodel a castle in New York State, Brody has been seen recently in Succession, Chapelwaite and The French Dispatch and has a whopping eight projects in production, including turns in the Marilyn Monroe-based Blonde and famed Los Angeles Lakers coach Pat Riley in an untitled series, continuing to amaze us with his singular talent.
“FILM IS A TIME CAPSULE. IF I HAVE A LACK OF DEDICATION OR FOCUS, IT'S PERMANENTLY THERE AS A NEGATIVE REMINDER.”
