With her swan-like neck, exotic beauty and innate grace, Somali supermodel Iman has been turning heads for years. But there’s more to this statuesque beauty than meets the eye.
Famously married to David Bowie from 1992 until his death in 2016, the 66-year-old who earlier in her career had been a muse to Gianni Versace, Thierry Mugler, Calvin Klein, Donna Karan and Yves Saint Laurent, is also a successful entrepreneur and philanthropist.
Starting out as one of just a few Black models in the industry, Iman founded a cosmetics line in 1994 to serve women of color, leaving the drama of the catwalk behind at the same time. She later developed a fashion line, Global Chic, and has supported charities in Somalia focused on helping women in her home country.
And in 2019 she also became a global advocate for the charity CARE, which works around the world saving lives, ending poverty and fighting for social justice, causes that are near and dear to Iman’s heart as she herself was a refugee from her homeland.
The eternally gorgeous Iman’s interior drive to leave this world better than she found it is further proof that her beauty goes beyond skin deep.
