FROM THE CHAIRMAN
South Beach Miami
San José del Cabo - Art Deco District, Miami
Positive Evolution
In the 70’s South Beach was a retirement location for the
New York middle class. However, in the 80’s, this sleepy,
slightly dilapidated community was trendily transformed
by model agencies, fashion production companies,
and the debut of Ocean Drive magazine. The community was
reborn with new hotels built, existing hotels renovated, and
the appearance of excellent restaurants and cafés. Hundreds of
models, photographers, and stylists swarmed SoBe.
By the 90’s, South Beach was a vibrant hot spot for the world
of fashion and catalogue production. Companies came from all
over the United States as well as Europe, particularly German
production companies that made their headquarters in South
Beach. Today it is glitzy and glamorous. First-class hotels,
restaurants, elegant condos, and fashionable shops are the
norm. Real estate prices in South Beach doubled, then tripled as
a result of all of this action.
