PORTFOLIO
ost sneakers are brokered by consignment stores in
various ways and most are dependent on a form
of online ordering. They offer ease of purchase,
Mtracking, delivery, and authentication. For the
sneaker aficionado, there are some brick and mortar stores, even
museums where the most coveted sneakers are displayed.
There are sneaker trade shows and sneakerheads have
portfolios. They track their stock, read sneaker news and know
all the new sneaker release dates. They know and probably love
their sneakers. People wait or pay people to wait in lines for
hours and spend tens of thousands of dollars just to get their
hands on the newest release. High earners are based on product
popularity and when the manufacturers, not just Nike, but also
Adidas, ASICS and so on, truly limit the edition creating a low
supply/high demand market.
Sneakers are manufactured though and even boxed and never
worn, time will ravage the raw materials of leather, vinyl, glue
and cloth, so sneakers do have a finite shelf life. However for
a sneaker lover, this is not a dissuasion. The fun is in the chase
and the find. Flipping the buy is just the fuel that feeds the
Vans Vault x Damien Hirst - December 2019 sneaker fire. Sometimes people even wear them.
