COOL OVER 50
Always Breaking New Ground
019 saw Martin Scorsese bring back some of his longstanding
partners in the creation of cinematic excellence with his film
The Irishman. He has also, as has been his want, broken new
2territory, this time with CGI-digitally de-aging technology which
allowed Joe Pesci, Robert de Niro and Al Pacino, Scorsese’s stars in The
Irishman, to de-age over a number of decades. The film debuted and was
favorably received at the NYFF and made its Latin American premiere
at the Los Cabos Film Festival prior to its Netflix release.
Scorsese’s rise to stardom began with his Oscar-nominated and now
classic film Taxi Driver in 1976. Four of his films are included in the
National Film Registry by the Library of Congress including Raging
Bull and Goodfellas, He won an Oscar for best director for The
Departed, while with Gangs of New York he earned a Golden Globe
for best director. The Aviator won five Academy Awards as well as the
Golden Globe and BAFTA awards for best picture. Scorsese’s seventh
Academy nomination for best director, as well as a Golden Globe arrived
with his family fantasy film Hugo. The list of accolades is long and
definitive, The Irishman another example of Scorsese’s cinematic gift.
"Martin Scorsese’s gangster epic, seen
through the eyes of a mob hit man, is a
breakthrough for the filmmaker and his stars."
