"The Face Of
American Skiing"
A t the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, Mikaela Shiffrin
became, at age 18, the youngest slalom champion in Olympic
history and she is still going strong.
In her second Olympics, she won the gold medal in the giant slalom and
silver medal in the Combined in the PyeongChang Winter Olympics in 2018.
With her first super-G win that year, she became the first skier in FIS Ski
World Cup history to win in all six disciplines.
In 2019, she became the first athlete to win four successive World
Championship titles in a single discipline - slalom - as well as earning 17
World Cup victories in a single season: eight slalom, four giant slalom, three
Super G and two parallel slalom. By season’s end, following her amazing
success in the 2019 World Ski Championship, the Colorado-native was
featured on television and in print media such as the New York Times where
she was described as "the face of American skiing.” The world is watching to
see what other records this marvel will obtain in 2020.
"Shiffrin’s dominance in the slalom is well-
documented, but she’s since blossomed
from specialist into quite possibly the world’s
best all-around skier."
