Sip Happens: Iconic Coffeehouses Around the World

Some cafés are just cafés—and others are landmarks. The kind of places where history oozes from every gilded mirror and velvet chair, and where your espresso comes with a side of literary ghosts and chandeliers. From Porto to Vienna, Rome to Venice, these iconic cafés have seen centuries of sipping, swirling, and soul-searching—and they’re still serving it up in style. And since October 1 marks International Coffee Day, there’s no better excuse to romanticize your next brew and maybe even book a ticket to sip it in a gilded salon once frequented by Audrey Hepburn or Lord Byron. Grab your demitasse—we’re going on a global coffee run.
