The prodigal chef and culinary celebrity started a supper club in his parents’ house in Southern California when he was merely 11-years-old. In 2014, he brought his pop-up restaurant Eureka to New York, serving an eight-course tasting menu at $150 per person.

By the time McGarry was 15-years-old, he had already cooked with accomplished chefs, and was featured on television and the cover of the New York Times Magazine’s food issue.

After that, he has staged, or apprenticed, at some of the best restaurants in the country, such as Grant Achatz’s restaurants Next and Michelin-starred Alinea in Chicago, and at Daniel Humm’s Eleven Madison Park in New York.

The young chef was also invited to cook at the White House, and met Barack and Michelle Obama.

Among other experiences with top chefs, restaurants and brands, and opening temporary pop-ups, the reputable McGarry is ready to launch his first permanent restaurant.

Located in the Lower East Side, Gem is McGarry’s anticipated New York eatery.

Divided into two spaces, with offerings from day to night, Gem includes ‘The Living Room’ and ‘The Dining Room.’ During daytime hours, ‘The Living Room’ is “Flynn’s idea of a neighborhood coffee shop and hang out.”

In the ‘The Dining Room,’ a 12-to-15 course tasting menu is served. The meal itself transitions from ‘The Living Room’ to ‘The Dining Room,’ with small plates that display McGarry’s artful cooking style.
