BEHIND THE SCENES WITH TEQUILA CLASE AZUL

A globalized world, where competitiveness and the quest to take full advantage of all the opportunities for growth that emerge out there, do not always get to match with the desired expectation about the personal growth of the employees, their well-being and the longed dream that a young entrepreneur built some day in their imagination of the future, to make this world, something better.

However, there are success stories that prove it is possible. This is the case of Clase Azul Spirits, the company that produces the emblematic tequila and mezcal Clase Azul. This 100% Mexican company, is not only an example of good operating practices achieved to position itself as one of the top luxury brands in the world, but, also, it has taken the flag of human well-being as one of its priorities to achieve such success.

Its purpose: To initiate a shift from our current reality to encourage individual transformation. “Success for me is based on happiness, on the possibility of transforming lives in a positive way”, shares Arturo Lomelí, founder & CEO of the company.

Clase Azul Spirits ranked at the top of the best companies to work in, under the GREAT PLACE TO WORK certification; It is an inclusive company where 60% of the employees are women, a large part of them from the Mazahua indigenous culture, who handmade each of the liquors that contain Tequila and Mezcal Clase Azul completely by hand. The physical disability has not been an impediment to the hiring of its staff. The focus is on people, their well-being, the care of their time and the balance of life in their personal, professional, familiar and spiritual spheres. “Everyone is important in the company, we do not use numbers, we use names to identify ourselves.” (Arturo Lomelí).

Even the company has a not profit organization named “Fundación con Causa Azul” that with a 100% focused team dedicates its days to the support of Mexican artisans, their training and promotion of their hand-crafts, looking that way, to keep our culturally exquisite Mexico alive.

This is how Clase Azul Spirits adopts this philosophy and life style as part of its business strategy, as part of its added value. Having happy employees, proud of their company and their work, employees who, motivated and grateful for that well-being, give their maximum effort, can almost automatically lead to business success, achieving a dream that is not only accounted for in profitability, but also in shared happiness.

New Zealand’s Energetic Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern

Jacinda Ardern – Let’s Do This

It’s Jacindamania – there is no denying the surge of enthusiasm surrounding New Zealand’s Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, who at age 37 became the youngest female world leader.  The energetic Prime Minister has a clear mission: to make New Zealand a global player.

Born in Hamilton, New Zealand, Prime Minister Ardern graduated from the University of Waikato with a Bachelor of Communication Studies in Politics and Public Relations. She is quick-witted, intelligent, and boasts an appealing aesthetic, as witnessed in the feature on Ardern in the March edition of Vogue.  She is attempting to combat some big issues, including better housing and poverty reduction for the poor, nuclear disarmament, and climate change, as well as a promise to protect the country’s heritage, its environment and the future of its children.

Prime Minister Ardern is vocal about these and many issues. She encourages women to, “Make your voices heard because no country can truly prosper without you.” A business as usual attitude was her response to the baby-mania surrounding the announcement of her pregnancy in January of this year. She remarked, “I’m pregnant, not incapacitated.” The Prime Minister will take a six-week maternity leave, with Deputy Winston Peters taking charge in the Prime Minister’s stead, until her return. Clarke Gayford, Ardern’s partner, and television’s “first man of fishing” will stay home with the newborn.

Prime Minister Ardern’s poise, charm and well-spoken thoughtfulness is setting the leadership bar high as she lives and breathes the Labour Party slogan, “Let’s do this,” every single day.

In April of this year TIME magazine named New Zealand’s Prime Minister one of 2018’s top 100 most influential people in the world.

This Month Golf Enthusiasts Celebrate 100 Years of Greatness

For lovers of early tee times on pristine greens and post-golf private dining at spectacular clubhouses, this month is for you – Happy #NationalGolfMonth!

Kicking off with some of the top tournaments in the sport, golf enthusiasts will be sure to follow the WGC Bridgestone Invitational and the 100th anniversary of the PGA Championship.

The weather in August is often ideal for golfing this time of year so be sure to take advantage of the deals and events organized near you. As for things you can do during national golf month, take it as an opportunity to play more or get out early for the first tee time of the day is quite breathtaking and an experience worth trying as the temperature is perfect at dawn.

Why not treat yourself to a course you haven’t played before?  Celebrate an entire month devoted to the sport you enjoy, it would be a nice way to treat yourself and your friends.

You can also take a lesson as a gift to yourself.  Once in a while it is good to get a fresh perspective that can help your swing, alignment or overall understanding of the game.  A pro can diagnose your game and give valuable tips in just one lesson.

Playing charity golf tournaments is a fun way to help out with your community or those in need.  You also usually get to play with people you don’t normally play with which can forge a new friendship!

Take a look at the pro tournaments coming up and plan a trip with friends of family to watch the pros live.  It is always better to see the sport firsthand and up close.

Inspire your kids or grandkids by taking them out for mini golf or a 9 hole round and help share the sport you love with the people you love.

Now is a perfect time as a new golfer to get out and try a sport you can play your whole life. Although it can be challenging at first, the sound and feel of striking the ball cleanly is so rewarding it draws many people to keep learning and repeat that feeling.  Golf keeps your body moving, especially if you can walk the course as was originally intended.  Some courses do not allow for people to walk the course as it would slow down other golfer’s games but if you have the chance you should try it at least once.

Throughout the month of August, Ocean Blue World will explore the ultimate ways to turn that golf pastime into a full-scale lifestyle, stay tuned for more to come!

Design Miami/

Design Miami/ is a biannual cultural design fair. In June it is held in Basel, Switzerland and in December it is held in Miami, Florida. Each of the galleries are selected by a Gallery Committee and when a piece is submitted, it must be authenticated by the Vetting Committee that they have in place. This is all to ensure that the quality and authenticity of its pieces that are displayed at the galleries. The gallerists that are involved in the shows are considered to be the leading experts in the fields they’re in. Each year, the Design Miami/ fair brings together collectors, gallerists, designers, curators, and critics to celebrate the design culture. Design Miami/ takes place with the Art Basel fair and has quickly become the top venue for collecting, discussing, and exhibiting a design.

Design Miami/ is a regular attraction of private and public collectors for historical and contemporary design. The galleries that are invited to display their designs at the event deal mostly in extraordinary designs from the dawn of modernism up to the present day, along with a few galleries specializing in amazing eighteenth and nineteenth-century antiques. Globally respected, Gabrielle Ammann who founded ammann/gallery in 2006 in Cologne, is one of the biggest forces and tastemakers within the art and design market. The distinguishing approach she takes to develop and manage a gallery is uniquely hers, including exquisite programs dedicated to innovation and connoisseurship in the fields of fine art, design, and architecture, which include the works of Ron Arad, Hélène Binet, Zaha Hadid, Rolf Sachs and Studio Nucleo.

Surpassing classic boundaries of art and design, Carpenters Workshop Gallery works at offering a collective that intersects the two universes. They construct and exhibit practical pieces that are created by rising, well known, artists and designers who dabble outside the traditional areas. Cristinia Grajales Gallery, brought to life in 2001, has made itself one of the forerunners in the world of art and design. Even though they specialize in contemporary design, they also deal in twentieth-century masterpieces that blurs the lines between art and design. With a full program of exhibits, they still participate in fairs all over the world.

Specializing in twentieth-century French Design with a touch of the late 1950’s through the 1970’s, Demisch Danant also represents the designs of Maria Pergay, Pierre Paulin, Joseph-André Motte, Pierre Guariche, Michel Boyer, Philippon and Lecoq and René-Jean Caillette. Carefully presented exhibits on historical pieces are shown within areas that allude to the architecture and interiors from that era. Friedman Benda, a gallery founded in 2007, is well known for dedicating it’s presentations of established and up-and-coming designers. Creating historically significant pieces, these designers are at the vanguard of their careers.

Clemence and Didier Krzentowski produce and present limited-edition pieces at Galerie Kreo, the pieces are by the greatest contemporary designers. This gallery offers exceptional lighting from the 1950’s to today, including pieces by Gino Sarfatti. A member of the Union Francaise des Experts, Assesseur de la Commission de Conciliation et d’Expertise Douaniere, and Compagnie Nationale des Experts, Didier Krzentowski is a licensed expert in design and contemporary art. Galerie Mitterrand, for the last thirty years, has predominantly shown sculpture. Not only showing sculpture, this gallery is now actively involved in representing well known artists and estates. They have supported the work of the Lalannes, who are key figures of contemporary design. Over the years, they have developed profound expertise in sculpture.

“Maisons d’Edition,” between art and architecture, and “Elements of Architecture,” which is between architecture and sculpture, were developed by Galerie Philippe Gravier. Small, nomadic homes that are designed to be movable and sustainable, fall within the “Maisons d’Edition” area. Pieces within “Elements of Architecture” are produced more as sculptures than as design, and they demonstrate the style and excellence of the designer. They produce in limited editions of five. Yu Wang and Xiao Lu, founded Gallery ALL, which is committed to a broad artistic and design dialogue. Curation-led, multidisciplinary gallery, presents existing works and new ones. It was one of the first design galleries in China and is dedicated to showing unique pieces that are limited-edition.

Gate 5 was founded in 2013 by Celine Marcato. Following a five-year collaboration with Galleria O. Roma in Rome, Gate 5 was brought to life. Specializing in historical Italian Design from the 1930’s to the 1970’s, it features pieces by Max Ingrand, Gio Ponti, and Gino Sarfatti. Also invited on-site to collaborate are contemporary designers and curators. Based in New York, Hostler Burrows specializes in Nordic and international works of art. Kim Hostler and Juliet Burrows founded this gallery in 1998. With a primary focus on ceramics, the program integrates contemporary and twentieth-century work.

Magen H Gallery has pioneered revolutionary and significant designs in sculpture, decorative arts, architecture, and ceramics since 1997. With an emphasis given to French postwar designers, the collection adds to the artistic dialogue between historically significant pieces and contemporary design. Todd Merrill Studio has been renowned for its glamorous and eclectic mix of twentieth-century design since 2000. They were one of the first gallerists to realize the significance of postwar American studio design, and have gained popularity for it. Their pieces are groundbreaking, dynamic, and unique and contribute to today’s increasingly relevant gray area between art and design.

Dining on the “Sun Coast,” Spain’s Renowned Costa del Sol

Dining on Spain’s Costa del Sol

Spain’s popular “sun coast” is a string of resort towns that were once sleepy fishing villages. Today, you’ll find a cadre of tourists sightseeing along the region that extends from the cliffs at Maro in the east to Punta Chullera in the west. Costa del Sol could be California’s Spanish soul sister with its strikingly similar scenery, climate and geography as well as ample sunshine per year. Within the sparkling shoreline of Costa del Sol exists a spellbinding blend of beaches and cliffs, bays and dunes. It is a quintessential destination with native cuisine hinting of Spanish, Jewish and Arabic influences and an emphasis on fresh seafood.

Here, you’ll find everything from fish shacks to Michelin-starred restaurants, set against gorgeous coastal backdrops.

Masala la Cala

There are five Masala restaurants on the Costa del Sol, boasting the best of Indian cuisine. Masala La Cala, in La Cala de Mijas is particularly family-friendly with a shaded tiled terrace trimmed with shady palms and overlooking seaside views along with a comfy and air conditioned main dining area.

You’ll find all of the curry classics made with the freshest ingredients and flavour-filled spices imported from India. The hot spot is perfect for large group dinners and there is ample street parking. A bonus for the kiddos—you can specify dishes as hot, medium or mild depending on their taste-bud tolerance.

El Paso Mexicano

From the colorful sombrero-adorned walls to a menu packed with tasty choices, this is authentic Tex-Mex that at its most fun and flavorful. Located just off the Fuengirola promenade in the backstreets of Los Boliches, you feel instantly transported to Central America. The menu includes all of the mainstays, such as sizzling steak fajitas, crunchy tacos, and homemade guacamole and there is a dedicated menu for the niños. Special occasions are celebrated in high style and there’s plenty of traditional live music and the chance to sport a broad-rimmed Mexican sombrero.

Restaurante MezzaNotte

Tucked seaside on the Fuengirola promenade sits a lovely blend of Lebanese and Italian cuisine. You just know it’s going to be good when the locals frequent there. From shared Middle-Eastern plates like babaganoush, hummous, chicken skewers and falafel, to tried and true pasta dishes and pizzas on the kids’ menu, Restaurante MezzaNotte has something for everyone. Try the house Rioja or something else on the wine list because with Spanish wine, good value and good quality equals a great bottle.

“The White City” of Mérida

Mérida

Travel guides refer to Mérida as “the white city”, a reference to the elegant white stone buildings along its picturesque city boulevards. Mérida, the capital city of Yucatán, Mexico, is renowned for its vibrant, contemporary and cosmopolitan culture, with Mayan and Spanish roots.

In recent years, the city has experienced a magnificent artistic renaissance. The opulent Beaux Arts white stone mansions on Paseo Montejo, a wide tree-lined boulevard inspired by the Avenue des Champs-Élysées in Paris, are now home to chic boutiques and establishments.

Fashion and design lovers consider Coqui Coqui, the chicest hotel in Mérida. Novel features include vintage furnishings, opulent gilded chandeliers and claw-foot bathtubs. The stylish Rosas & Xocolate, recently named “the best urban hotel in Mexico” by Travel+Leisure ups the romance factor with fresh-cut roses placed liberally throughout the rooms and suites.

Local restaurants helmed by notable Mexican chefs offer culinary delights inspired by the rich gastronomic traditions of the region and rival some of Mexico City’s best. Amongst the city’s high-end dining options is the gastronomic powerhouse K’u’uk featuring Yucatán-style molecular gastronomy, by drawing on cutting-edge techniques. Apoala, one of the hottest spots in the city, offers a contemporary spin on Mexican cuisine and Néctar, opened by Noma alumnus Roberto Solís, serves innovative Yucatecan cuisine.

Colorful happenings: concerts, festivals and traditional celebrations are almost a constant feature in this vibrant city making it a magnet for visitors from around the world.

The city is also an ideal base from which to explore the region, including the archaeological wonders of Chichén Itzá, appointed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site and considered one of the “New Seven Wonders of the World.” In addition to archaeological sites, the city provides easy access to several historic haciendas dating back to the 17th and 18th centuries – some converted to luxury hotels.

The Guardian, Condé Nast Traveler, and Town & Country rank Mérida among the top cities in the world to visit, while naming it the Americas’ Capital of Culture for its historic colorfulness, architecture, art and lively music.

Veruschka

The Timeless Supermodel Veruschka

The Countess Vera Gottliebe Anna von Lehndorff-Steinort has been modelling since the early sixties under the name of Veruschka. More than a model, she is a performance artist and actress, forever reinventing herself.

Following World War II, when her father was executed for attempting to assassinate Hitler, Veruschka moved to Hamburg to study art, and later moved to Florence where she began her modelling career. She was discovered at age 20 by the photographer Ugo Mulas.

In 1961 she re-located to New York and reinvented herself, branding the Veruschka moniker. She caught the eye of Diana Vreeland, then editor-in-chief of American Vogue. Her first cover photos for Vogue were shot by Irving Penn and Bert Stern.

It was not just her luscious and lengthy figure that made her one of the highest-paid models in 1967, it was also her mystique, described on the cover of Life magazine as “Bizarre, Exotic, Six Feet Veruschka—The Girl Everybody Stares At.”

Though Veruschka stepped away from the commercial side of modelling, she occasionally shows up on catwalks. In 1994, she made a surprise appearance at the Chanel spring show in Paris, and at age 78, Veruschka recently popped up for Resort season as the Face of Acne Studios reminding one and all that Richard Avedon’s “most beautiful woman in the world” can still walk the runway looking like a Greek deity.

“Veruschka! The ’60s Icon Proves There’s No Age Limit on Cool.” –Vogue

Riccardo Tisci – Today’s Fashion Leader

Riccardo Tisci

He is the man who has dressed the best in the best and brought luxury and style to streetwear. Best known for his work with famous stars, he has designed for: Madonna, Beyoncé and Rihanna, Jay-Z and Kanye West’s on their Watch the Throne album, The Kardashians and collaborated with Nike.

He has recently been appointed the Chief Creative Officer for the elegant, historically traditional Burberry, one of Britain’s top luxury brands. The announcement came as a surprise to those in the fashion world but by all accounts the expectation is one of positive change, and was reflected in an immediate rise in Burberry.

The Italian designer trained at the prestigious Central Saint Martins Academy in London. It is not the first time Tisci has worked with Burberry’s current Chief Executive, Marco Gobbetti. Gobbetti, former president and Chief Executive of Givenchy, was the first to bring Tisci on board, spotting his talent for what it is. Indeed from 2005 to 2017, Tisci turned the Givenchy label into an international player with his out-of-the-box designs.

States Gobbetti, “His designs have an elegance that is contemporary and his skill in blending streetwear with high fashion is highly relevant to today’s luxury consumer. Riccardo’s creative vision will reinforce the ambitions we have for Burberry and position the brand firmly in luxury.”

“From 2005 to 2017, Italian-born designer Riccardo Tisci was Givenchy’s golden boy. In that decade-plus, he turned the French label from a classic, sophisticated fashion house into one of the pioneering brands of the streetwear-fashion fusion that now defines the industry.”

Fundación Origen and its Great Impact on Women in Mexico

Fundación Origen

It is always controversial to talk about women: marvelous, vulnerable and strong; fighting day after day against endless stereotypes, violence and inequality. In Mexico: 7 out of 10 women suffer from violence, 7 women die each day due to gender violence, 17% lack basic education and women are the head of the household in 3 out of 10 homes.

What does Fundación Origen do in favor of Mexican women?

Mindful of this reality, Fundación Origen was founded and initiated 18 years ago by Mariana Baños Reynaud, who aims to provide a comprehensive platform for women and their families. This platform offers Human and Economic Development programs in order to break the cycle of violence and reduce poverty in Mexico.

Fundación Origen has the Línea de Ayuda Origen (Line for Help Origen) program, a toll-free telephone number 01800 015 1617, where they offer psychological care, as well as legal and medical guidance to improve the emotional health of people. In addition to the telephone, chat, email and whatsapp, the foundation channels particular cases towards one of the 6,000 institutions in its directory to receive face-to-face attention.

They also have Centros Casa Origen (Home Centers Origen), which offer Human Development, Economic and Productive workshops to vulnerable women; in order to strengthen their self-esteem and develop their personal, social and productive capacities to improve their quality of life and that of their families. There are 6 Centers in the states of: Puebla, State of Mexico, Guerrero, Nayarit and Oaxaca.

In 18 years they have been able to support more than 1 million 200 thousand people! At the International Community Foundation we are convinced that supporting Fundación Origen changes the lives of families and integrated communities.

Support Fundación Origen!
