The ninth edition of the Mifel Tennis Open by Telcel Oppo in Los Cabos delivered more than just ocean views and crisp backhands—it brought breakout moments, doubles drama, and one very happy Canadian.

Denis Shapovalov stole the show with his fourth career title and second of the season, proving his one-handed backhand is still one of the smoothest in the game. The 26-year-old Canadian cruised through the final, defeating seventh-seeded American Aleksandar Kovacevic 6-4, 6-2 in just 75 minutes. It was a fast, clean win powered by big serves, early breaks, and a momentum that’s clearly building.
“This title means a lot,” Shapovalov said, describing the Los Cabos tournament as one of the best-run events of the year. “Everything is perfect. The organization is incredible.” Coming off an early Wimbledon exit, Shapovalov embraced the sunshine and rhythm of Cabo, where he also banked 250 ATP points and a $135,000 paycheck—not a bad way to bounce back.

Meanwhile, in doubles, American duo Robert Cash and JJ Tracy earned their first-ever ATP title, outplaying Australians Blake Bayldon and Tristan Schoolkate in two tight sets: 7-6(4), 6-4. The 23- and 24-year-old partners were sharp when it counted, especially with their first serves—racking up an 82% effectiveness rate and saving four out of six break points.
Their win also came with 250 points, $47,080 in prize money, and a well-deserved leap up the doubles rankings. Not bad for a team that had to play more matches than their opponents, who advanced to the semis after a walkover.
Ocean Blue World had special guests attending all week throughout the tournament along with our publisher Vanessa Fukanaga watching all the action up close. Plus, Mauricio Mercado a Sales Director and Sommelier at Baja Wines was the lucky winner of the Ocean Blue World giveaway of two VIP seats at the event.

In short: great tennis, golden hour lighting, and a reason to keep Los Cabos on your radar—whether you’re a fan, a player, or just there for the beachy hospitality.
