At 80, Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim has amassed a fortune of nearly $70 billion making him the fifth richest person in the world, according to
Forbes, and the richest man in Latin America.
He and his family control the America Movil cell phone network, Latin America’s largest provider. Slim has a stake in Mexico’s telephone company, and owns 17 percent of The New York Times, among other investments rounding out his considerable portfolio, providing hundreds of thousands of jobs around the globe.
