UP AND COMING
Lord of the Dance
“Critics have called
him ‘exhilarating,’ a
‘consummate showman’
and an audience favorite
who is ‘totally alive to
each moment.’”

Mexico is not usually associated with ballet, but a young dancer is changing all of that while lighting the world of ballet on fire. Isaac Hernández has danced his way from his
childhood backyard in Guadalajara to some of the world’s preeminent stages.
He has performed with the San Francisco Ballet, the American Ballet Theater, the Dutch National Ballet, winning prizes for his artistry along the way. Since 2015 he has been dancing with the English National Ballet in London, the first Mexican to be named lead principal dancer.

technical skill and undeniable charisma, including accolades for 2019’s role as Prince Guillaume in Cinderella, which was performed in-the-round at Royal Albert Hall.
The 30-year-old international superstar who began classes under his father’s tutelage at the age of eight, has not forgotten his roots. Hernández has established a non-profit for youth in Mexico, bringing some of the world’s greatest dancers to inspire young people, and founded the country’s first free ballet school.
As he enters his third decade, don’t expect Hernández to slow down. The only goals he hasn’t achieved are ones he has yet to establish as he pushes his art form to the next level.
