ith a net worth of $5.6 billion amassed over a career spanning more than half a century, 81-year-old Ralph Lauren’s remains one of the most significant
American designers of all time.
Born in The Bronx, New York, to Jewish immigrants, Lauren began by designing famously wide neckties in 1967 and opened his first standalone Polo store in 1971 on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills. The following year he launched the Polo shirt, and his perspective on design would change the way Americans dressed forever as his style explored ideals of prep students, athletes and Western wear striking a chord with the American psyche.
