A rags to riches true story, Ralph
Lauren got his first big break
with Neiman Marcus which
bought 100 dozen of his
original-design ties. After obtaining a loan he
opened a necktie store under the label ‘Polo’. By
1971 he expanded into Rodeo Drive in Beverly
Hills and by 1972 his now famous ‘Polo’ shirts
as well as women’s wear hit the market and the
Ralph Lauren lifestyle journey had fully begun.
He also gained recognition by designing a
clothing line for the movies The Great Gatsby
and Annie Hall.
Ralph Lauren and wife Ricky have three
children: Andrew, an actor and film producer;
David, Chief Innovation Officer and Vice
Chairman of Ralph Lauren (RL); and Dylan
who runs Dylan's Candy Bar in New York.
Andrew, Ricky, Ralph and David Lauren Lauren has received numerous prestigious
Prince William and Ralph Lauren fashion tributes throughout his career. He
has participated in a number of philanthropic
initiatives focusing on the causes and
treatments of cancer recently collaborating
with the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation
Trust. He is the embodiment of the successful
entrepreneur and designer, living and creating
the American dream.
