A drenalin heightens our imagination as we strain our voices in the
stands or root for our favorite teams on television, and yet we are
still surprised why our throats ache from cheering on a good match.
Many of us are sports fans. We love our soccer, basketball, football,
and baseball. We go to the games. We support the teams by sporting their apparel
and that is the extent of it.
In alternative investment, only people in business have enough cash to purchase
their own professional sports teams. Indeed, sports clubs have become trophy assets
for ultra-successful self-made entrepreneurs. Of the top 20 clubs of the world’s 50
most valuable sports teams, seven are in England – though they are, for the most
part, owned by foreign-born billionaires.
Number one is a Mexican businessman who is reportedly the world’s richest soccer
club owner. One of his firms bought a 30 per cent stake in Grupo Pachuca, whose
holdings include first division Mexican soccer clubs Pachuca and Leon. Arsenal
