hen the sun is shining there are few
finer places than Scotland, and I
have just found the perfect spot for a
Wweekend break. The grand Gleneagles
Hotel is a genuine, luxury, one-stop resort. The last
time I was there was all work as a TV news anchorman
interviewing U.S. President George W. Bush and the
UK’s Prime Minister Tony Blair at the G8 Summit.

This time it was all pleasure. With my wife and a
group of friends, we headed straight for the golf
courses, and there are plenty of championship-quality
choices. We took on the Jack Nicklaus-created PGA
Centenary, home to the 2014 Ryder Cup, before playing
the stunning Queen’s and King’s courses. If golf is
not your game, try clay target shooting or take to the
grouse moors, based around a log cabin to match the
best of North American hunting lodges. Fly fishing
for trout in the local lochs is a must, or you can have
a go at falconry, archery, off-road-driving and a host
of other intriguing activities.
