Still others stargazers are looking beyond to life on Mars. It was not too long
ago when PayPal co-founder Elon Musk took the stage in Guadalajara, Mexico,
and outlined his vision to colonize Mars through his company Space X. Flying
a million people to the red planet sounded like a good backup plan then, but
Musk’s first draft had a few frayed edges. Such as, who will pay to develop and
operate these giant rockets? So Musk revised that earlier plan and now plans to
launch Falcon Heavy, the first super heavy-lift rocket by " no sooner that the end
of 2017," acoording to the Kennedy Space Center.
Elsewhere in the world, in late 2018, China will launch Chang’e 4 lander and
rover. This will be the first ever attempt at a soft landing on the moon. China also
has plans to launch the core module Tianhe-1, one of three large modules that
will make up the completed Chinese Space Station (CSS).
NASA, in unsurprising news, is scaling up its investment in commercial space
travel. However Dr. James D. Polk, NASA´s Chief Medical Officer has some
recomendations. He says that he personally grew an inch and a half from a
temporary lengthening of his spine while in space. He wants people to consider
the facts: "There are real-life health factors associated with extended space travel,
and lots of research being done."
Then there is space travel for the budget-minded, headed up by Joseph Archer, a
Los Alamos National Laboratory government engineer, who wants you to invest
in his concept for cheaper flights into space, because (we paraphrase) you should
not have to invest millions to get a quality space experience.
Lastly, Maxim de Jong believes space tourism is so close he wants to build space
hotels right now. We’re not sure if things are quite there, yet. But if vacation
homes on the moon become a thing anytime soon, you’ll be the first to know.
