World renowned fashion designer, Christian Louboutin is celebrating Mexican craftsmanship with this latest handbag project, MEXICABA. The vivid totes were designed in partnership with the artisans, Taller Maya, a foundation that works to preserve traditional, local craftsmanship and ensure the long-term economic empowerment of Mayan artisans. Reflecting the beautiful Yucatan history and culture, Louboutin teamed with the artists to create these astonishing pieces made of handwoven cotton panels, stunning embroidery and traditional hand-painted beads.
This collaboration was made possible through the social enterprises program of Fundación Haciendas del Mundo Maya who assists Taller Maya in creating a sustainable and healthy system of production. Fundación Haciendas del Mundo Maya facilitates material to build the workshops where the artisans work, learn from each other, develop their creativity and forge a sense of community.
MEXICABA redefines luxury with authentic artisanal pieces that make a difference. For each MEXICABA sold in Christian Louboutin boutiques, ten percent of profits from the sale will go directly to Taller Maya. However, the impact goes well beyond charity, as every bag also represents earnings for artisans who worked on its creation.
