W intour fearlessly forges
new fashion views.
She closed out the
supermodel era using
celebrities rather than models on the covers.
She was the first to mix low-end fashion items
with more expensive pieces in photo shoots.
She launched the Vogue-sponsored Fashion's
Night Out in New York, wielding her magic,
giving people a chance to mingle with the elite
of the fashion industry.
Wintour is an influential woman with a wide
circle of loyal friends who despite her well-
known chilly disposition, describe her as
firm and fair. Her charitable works bespeak a
caring soul. She serves as trustee to the New
York Metropolitan Museum, where she has
brought in millions for its Costume Institute;
raised funds for AIDS charities and founded
the CFDA/Vogue Fund which helps neophyte
fashion designers.
“Part of the pleasure of editing Vogue,” says
Wintour, “lies in the long tradition of this
magazine, in being able to feature those who
define the culture at any given moment, who
stir things up, whose presence in the world
shapes the way it looks and influences the way
we see it.”
“Create your own
style… let it be unique
for yourself and
yet identifiable for
others.” –Anna Wintour
